From Vintage Vibes to Digital Design: Meg MacKay’s Creative Journey

Meg MacKay is a 25-year-old photographer and multimedia specialist inspired by vintage fashion, graphic design, and interior design. She blends timeless aesthetics with a modern flair, drawing influence from artists, writers, photographers, and the world around her. Through her work, Meg aims to evoke genuine emotion, believing that art has the power to stir deep, raw feelings. While working at a small, visually outdated company, she’s teaching herself marketing and learning firsthand how design can influence engagement, despite the challenges of a visually limiting environment. Meg is committed to understanding what drives people to feel, click, read, and engage.

Throughout high school and college, Meg faced significant mental and physical health challenges, which made for a confusing start to her academic journey. Unsure of where she fit in or what path to take, she held onto the dream of living in New York City and immersing herself in art and media. Despite numerous obstacles—mistakes, triumphs, and the impact of COVID—Meg navigated through different schools. Ultimately, she graduated on time in 2022 from The New School in New York City with a Media Studies degree, a reality she still finds hard to believe.

Since graduating, Meg has been focused on self-reflection, healing, growing, and learning—a process familiar to many in their mid-twenties. She’s held various jobs, all rooted in media, photography, and graphic design. While she’s grateful for each of these experiences, her focus remains on finding a role that allows her to collaborate with a larger team, explore new design techniques, and take on more strategic marketing challenges. Meg hopes that continuing her education at Quinnipiac will help her turn this dream into reality and further her skillset.

Currently, Meg is a Multimedia Specialist at a company in Bloomfield, CT. While she appreciates the supportive, women-led environment, she finds the role limiting, as she is the sole creator of visuals, social media content, blog posts, email marketing, and copywriting. Although she enjoys creating this content, she dreams of joining a larger marketing team—one where collaboration and the exchange of ideas thrive. She is especially eager to learn from others, particularly in areas like design, SEO, and overall marketing.

Meg sees this as the perfect time to dive deeper into her studies while searching for her dream role, all while working to overcome imposter syndrome. Believing she’s good enough for her ideal job is one of her greatest challenges, but she hopes that by refining her skills, continuing her education, and embracing collaboration, she can build the confidence needed to step into her dream role.
